A tribute to Di Williamson
Co Founder of Spanish Water Dog Rescue
5-5-1950 to 26-12-2024

Di Williamson was introduced to Spanish Water Dogs on a holiday and her first, Miguel, came to live with her in 2002. She quickly became involved with the breed, becoming a member of the Spanish Water Dog club and committee and promoting the breed. By 2005 she, along with several other SWD owners, was concerned that the breed would need some sort of rescue provision and together they worked with the Spanish Water Dog Club to set up a welfare and rehoming committee, the beginning of SWDR.
Di had a pivotal role in the establishment of Spanish Water Dog Rescue, initially as part of the club. She worked tirelessly to raise funds through training days and her much loved ‘Di’s Weekend’. When the first SWD came into rescue she cared for them in her home using her extensive expertise to rehabilitate them before finding them new homes. When the time was right, she led the separation of the rescue from the club to enable it to continue to grow and provide support to SWD and their owners.
So many owners were supported by Di to enable them to get the best of their relationship with their SWD. Her willingness to give advice, help and friendship was endless and has had an impact on so many dog and human lives. Her insight and inspiration lives on in Spanish Water Dog Rescue and we strive to continue the work she started. Di was much admired and loved by the Spanish Water Dog Community and will be sorely missed.
